Network Automation Engineer, Automation Ops

Title: Network Automation Engineer, Automation Ops

Location: Remote (US)

Who we are:

Network to Code bridges the gap between DevOps and Network Engineering. We are a pioneer in the network automation industry. Our mission is to drastically change the way networks are managed, consumed, and operated on a day-to-day basis. We offer a variety of professional and consulting services as well as training on Network Automation, DevOps for Networking, and how the network can be operated with an Infrastructure as Code mindset. Our services and solutions enable clients to better serve their business and the needs of their customers.

Impact of this technical role:

As a Network Automation Engineer (NAE) you will be part of the Automation Ops (AOps) team. The AOps team is a critical piece of Network to Code’s newly formed Automation Operations Center (AOC). You will be on a highly skilled and passionate team of NAEs and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), delivering Network to Code’s industry leading network automation support.

A day in the life:

Working together with your teammates (SREs and NAEs), you will be the frontline for Network to Code’s network automation Support and Managed Services.

A standard Day in the Life of an AOps NAE:

  • Watch the ticketing system, verify that you understand client requests, and act on them
  • Acknowledge and respond to client requests within the times defined by their Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Perform changes in Nautobot, make additions to an Ansible playbook, submit an issue to an Open Source library
  • Escalate as needed to Sr. NAEs or Architects who will share what they know with you, and equip you for success
  • Communicate with clients directly via the ticketing system or via email/chat/video as the situation requires
  • Take advantage of your dedicated personal development time to check out the latest internal Knowledge Share/Network to Code blog or learn something else entirely
  • Post pictures of your pets in #office-managers, and then look for dinner inspiration in #foodies
  • Work in the IDE of your choice, on the OS of your choice, to eradicate a bug in an Open Source Python library and submit a Pull Request to that repository

What you bring:

  • Innate drive to help clients solve hard problems
  • Natural curiosity for technology, coupled with a passion to share what you’ve learned
  • Honesty, empathy, and respect for those around you
  • Ability to focus the solution, not the problem
  • Confidence and decisiveness, but also the flexibility to examine new information and take a different direction

What you have:

  • 1+ year operating infrastructure automation on a production network (While labs are cool, there is nothing quite like breaking prod…)
  • Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) or equal networking knowledge (Do you know what a switch is and how it works?)
  • Basic comfort and familiarity with modern network automation (Do you know what to do with at least one of Ansible, Python, or Go?)
  • Exposure and comfort with basic Linux system administration tasks (Does the phrase “Grep the logs” mean anything to you?)
  • Ability to communicate accurately and concisely about complex technical topics (Can you explain what that switch from earlier to a five year old?)
