Title: Engineering Manager & Software Architect, OSS Network Automation

Impact of this leadership role:

As an Engineering Manager & Software Architect, you will guide product development of key NTC open source projects that use a wide range of technologies including Python, Django, and Ansible. The Manager will manage cross-functional teams and work closely with one or Product Owners for the open source projects.  The Manager is a player and coach–the individual must be able to contribute code, perform code reviews, while assisting in roadmap planning & development.  The Manager will spend ample time maintaining and contributing to an aggregate NTC open source backlog.   This is a technical leadership role that will not initially have direct reports, but the Manager should have the desire and capability to grow the team if needed in the future. This role provides a platform to drive the strategic direction of the key NTC open source projects.

A day in the life:

  • Partner with the NTC Architecture team that are Product Owners of NTC open source software to build and maintain an active backlog across NTC open source projects
  • Partner with MCs, PCs, and the Community to aggregate feedback on NTC open source projects to influence the direction and roadmap of NTC open source projects
  • Contribute to the backlog of NTC open source projects
  • Build proofs of concept when exploring new integrations and partnerships with ecosystem partners that could lead to public demos or new open source projects
  • Articulate and understand dependencies between NTC open source projects
  • Work with the Community and Engineering teams to ensure consistency across NTC projects from READMEs, developer experience, to CI pipelines
  • Review code and assess code quality
  • Working in an agile environment with an excellent team of engineers
  • Gather requirements by talking with internal stakeholders to further refine the backlog
  • Work with and coach NTC engineers ensuring everyone is aware of priorities and backlog when they aren’t supporting customers

  • Detail oriented and an understanding of how present decisions impact the future development of the platform

What you have:

  • Experience managing development/engineering teams
  • 3+ years of experience immersed in network automation
  • 3-5+ years of experience working with Python
  • Strong knowledge of version control (i.e. git, svn, etc.)
  • Comfortable doing day to day development in a Linux environment
  • Familiar with traditional Git workflows for working in a collaborative environment.
