Impact of this leadership role:

As an Engineering Manager & Software Architect, you will guide product development of one or more key Python & Django-based open source projects including the Nautobot project. The Manager manages a distributed engineering team and works closely with the Product Owner and Scrum Master to ensure optimal delivery and engineering excellence.  The Manager is a player and coach–the individual must be able to contribute code, perform code reviews, while assisting in roadmap planning & development.  The Manager & Architect is capable of leading a high performing team while personally delivering code at the same time. This management role provides a platform to drive the strategic direction of the Nautobot project.

A day in the life:

  • Manage a team of direct and indirect reports to drive engineering development
  • Work with the Product Owner to build a robust backlog
  • Develop Python Django software products using the Django REST Framework with a focus on Nautobot and Nautobot plugins (apps)
  • Perform full lifecycle software development
  • Establish engineering metrics ensuring each team member is contributing to the overall team velocity
  • Assist the team in removing the required roadblocks for the team to deliver
  • Review code and assess code quality
  • Working in an agile environment with an excellent team of engineers
  • Gather requirements by talking with internal stakeholders to further refine the backlog

  • Ability to work effectively with Product Owner and Scrum Master
  • Detail oriented and an understanding of how present decisions impact the future development of the platform
  • Confidence and decisiveness in moving the ball forward while being flexible and open

What you have:

  • Experience managing development/engineering teams
  • 7+ years experience of Python coding skills
  • 3+ years hands on experience with the Django framework and DRF
  • Solid database skills in a relational database (i.e. MySQL, PostgresQL, etc.)
  • Knowledge of how to build and use RESTful APIs
  • Strong knowledge of version control (i.e. git, svn, etc.)
  • Comfortable doing day to day development in a Linux environment
  • Familiar with traditional Git workflows for working in a collaborative environment.

  • Have managed or worked with open source projects and communities
